Pengaruh Media Interaktif Hijaiyah terhadap Kemampuan Pengenalan Huruf pada Anak Usia Dini dalam Konteks Pembelajaran Abad ke-21
Keywords:
Early childhood education, Interactive hijaiyah media, Qur'anic literacy; 21st-century learningAbstract
Purpose – This study examines whether the frequency of using interactive hijaiyah media influences early childhood children's ability to recognize, pronounce, and accurately read hijaiyah letters within the context of 21st-century learning. The study also evaluates whether children's age and parents' age act as covariates affecting these literacy outcomes.
Design/methods/approach – A quantitative study with an ex post facto correlational design was employed. Data were collected through an online questionnaire completed by parents of 14 children aged 4–6 years who had experience using interactive hijaiyah media for learning. Data were analyzed using one-way Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) in Jamovi to examine the simultaneous effects of media use frequency while controlling for children's age and parents' age.
Findings – The multivariate analysis revealed that the frequency of interactive hijaiyah media use had a significant overall effect on children's hijaiyah literacy skills (Pillai's Trace = 1.476, F(6, 8) = 3.76, p = .044). Univariate tests indicated significant effects on pronunciation (p = .001) and reading accuracy (p = .002), whereas letter recognition approached statistical significance (p = .051). Neither children's age nor parents' age showed significant effects on any of the dependent variables.
Conclusion – Interactive hijaiyah media effectively supports the development of children's phonological awareness, particularly pronunciation and reading accuracy of hijaiyah letters. These findings suggest that integrating interactive digital media into Islamic early childhood education can enhance learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with the demands of 21st-century learning.
Contribution – This study provides empirical evidence supporting the integration of interactive digital media into Islamic early childhood literacy instruction. It contributes to the growing literature on technology-enhanced learning by demonstrating the potential of interactive hijaiyah media to strengthen foundational Qur'anic literacy skills among young children.
